Bob Armstrong (Independent)
Bob turned professional at the age of fifteen, performing his first pro gig on a summer season at Great Yarmouth. Over a playing career spanning fifty years he has had the privilege of playing for some of the country's top artists and also many an international star. They include:
Tom Jones, Cilla Blank, Roy Castle (for eleven years), Bruce Forsyth, The Three Degrees, The Four Tops, Elaine Page, Joe Longthorne, Mike Yarwood, David Essex, Morcambe & Wise, Rolf Harris, Peter Skellern, Roger Whittaker, Cannon & Ball, Victoria Wood, French & Saunders, and the list goes on.
West End theatre includes: Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Starlight Express, Mutiny, La Cage Aux Folles, Singing in the Rain and The Wiz.
Interspersed with all this, there has been a mixture of recording sessions, TV jingles, radio sessions with the BBC Radio Big Band and the BBC Radio Orchestra. Four series of the Victoria Wood Show, French & Saunders series, all the music for the Super Ted cartoon series, and seven series of the Record Breakers and four Royal Command performances.
Bob has been teaching the drums for over 30 years. His vast experience and passion for both the instrument and his teaching, have led him to have the reputation and recognition as the UK's No.1 educator and is very proud to say that some of the country's finest players have come out of the doors of his studio.
He is also very proud to have many of his current students in the top bands in the country, if not the world at this moment in time. They include: Steve White(ex-Paul Weller, sessions and clinician for Mapex Drums), Andrew Small(ex-Kylie Minogue, currently El Divo), Alan White(ex-Oasis), Andy Gangadeen(The Bays and drum 'n' bass sessions), Chris Dagley - RIP(BBC Radio Big Band, sessions, house drummer atRonnie Scott's Jazz Club), Guy Richmond(ex-Boyzone, West End theatre), Ian Thomas(sessions), Pete Riley(Keith Emerson, sessions, author and educator), Ed Carlile(sessions and West End theatre), Tim Weller(West End theatre, Billy Elliot), Tim Goodyer(West End theatre, Shrek), Darren Altman(funk, jazz and pop sessions), Darren Ashford(sessions, educator), Matt McDonough(sessions), Alex Reeves(Dizzee Rascal), Brad Webb(Jamie Cullum), Rob Webb(rock sessions), and many more.
Bob is also very proud to be associated with HM Royal Marines School of Music Portsmouth where he has conducted masterclasses for the Corps of Drums trainees and also HM Royal Marines Corps of Drums. Bob is equally proud to be associated with The Household Division drummers, teaching students from The Welsh Guards, The Scots Guards, The Grenadier Guards, Irish Guards, Coldstream Guards and the Blues & Royals.
Bob also teaches the Corps of Drums of the Romford British Legion Band and the Corps of Drums of the Brentwood British Legion Band.
