Mark Heaney

Independent

Mark Heaney is a prolific drummer/musical creator from London.

His drumming career began at age 8 with an intense interest in the art of music, progressing at the age of 10, to showcasing his prodigious talent as the main drummer in his father’s show band.

This was only the beginning of his career as a drummer, and years later he went on to work with many well-known musicians and producers including Mark Howard (producer) (Bob Dylan, U2, Neil Young), John Squire (The Stone Roses and The Seahorses), Simon Tong, Simon Jones and Nick McCabe (The Verve), The Freelance Hellraiser; The Klaxons, Badly Drawn Boy; Shit Disco; Howie Day, Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie and Gwen Stefani), Threshold, Youth, Garret Lee, David Botrill, Andy Gill and many others.

In addition to his extensive experience as a session drummer, Mark went on to become a member of UK bands, The Seahorses, The Shining and was a long-time member of post punk icons Gang of Four.

To complement his drumming, Mark has also created a huge volume of compositional music for film and TV, and has created music for companies such as EMI, De Wolfe, Extreme, Wrong Planet and Microsoft.

He is still very much an in-demand composer but wanting to utilise his powerful and intricate drumming and his exceptional ability to create unique and compelling soundscapes, Heaney has also embarked on his own solo project, which is now his main focus.

In 2017 his album Fortunes was included as one of the 14 best drum albums as voted by the read-ers of Rhythm magazine.

Fast forward to late 2018, his ambitions went a step further and he put together a new studio/live project called Drumscapes.

Drumscapes features his live drums against an intricate backdrop of soundscapes, that fuses music from jazz, trip hop, drum and bass and electronica.

In October 2018, he released the studio album Drumscapes Vol 1. It was nominated for Drum Al-bum of 2018 by Rhythm magazine. Then in March 2019 he released Drumscapes Vol 2.

In his live Drumscapes performances, Mark uses an LPD8 and Ableton live which enables in the moment manipulation of the audio, allowing for improvisation within the framework of the tracks.
